Geoacoustic Inversion of Broadband Data from the Florida Straits
نویسندگان
چکیده
Acoustic propagation experiments have been carried out in the Florida Straits with a multi-frequency broadband source that transmitted M-sequence pulses over a range of 10 km to a sparse-filled vertical line array. The sound source was cycled in octaves from 100 Hz to 3200 Hz, transmitting each octave for one hour. This paper presents results of matched field inversions of the acoustic field data to estimate geoacoustic model parameters for the experimental site. The inversion is very sensitive to the sediment sound speed at the sea floor. The estimated value of 1560 m/s is consistent with fine-grain calcareous sand material that is considered to represent ground truth for the site.

Broadband synthetic aperture geoacoustic inversion.
A typical geoacoustic inversion procedure involves powerful source transmissions received on a large-aperture receiver array. A more practical approach is to use a single moving source and/or receiver in a low signal to noise ratio (SNR) setting. This paper uses single-receiver, broadband, frequency coherent matched-field inversion and exploits coherently repeated transmissions to improve estim...

This paper presents travel time geoacoustic inversion of broadband data collected on a vertical line array at short range of 230 m during the Shallow Water 2006 experiments. A ray-tracing method combined with a hybrid optimization algorithm that utilizes differential evolution and downhill simplex was used for the inversion of sediment properties. The ocean sound speed profile and geometric par...
متن کاملInversion For Geoacoustic Model Parameters In Range-Dependent Shallow Water Environments
Our ability to predict acoustic fields in shallow water is limited by the knowledge of the structure and the geoacoustic properties of the bottom, both of which may change with range. The long-term objective of this research project is to investigate broadband matched field inversion methods for estimating geoacoustic model parameters and their uncertainties, in shallow water environments that ...
متن کامل3D Propagation and Geoacoustic Inversion Studies in the Mid-Atlantic Bight
Under the Shelf-Break Primer initiative, the Office of Naval Research sponsored a multi-year study of acoustic propagation in the region of the North Atlantic Bight off the coast of New Jersey. This region is of interest due to the combination of sloping bathymetry near the continental shelf and the strong oceanographic frontal features associated with the Gulf Stream. The general purpose of th...
متن کاملRange-Dependent Geoacoustic Inversion: Results From the Inversion Techniques Workshop
Model-based geoacoustic inversion in range-dependent underwater environments is a challenging task constrained by data quality (synthetic or measured) and propagation-model efficiency and accuracy. The Inversion Techniques Workshop (ITW), held in Gulfport, MS, May 15–18, 2001, was organized for the acoustics community to present state-of-the-art numerical geoacoustic inversion capabilities in r...
